Solar Energy
The EdgarMay Health and Recreation Center heats its pool water with the sun.
The EdgarMay Health and Recreation Center has 69 solar panels affixed to the roof of its swim center. These 69 panels heat a portion of the Recreation Center's lap pool and children's wading pool. The solar array is more than 2,000 square feet and is the largest solar heating system in the state. Since the system became operational on March 1st, 2007 it has produced 124,034 kWh of energy, saving the Recreation Center roughly $11,000 in propane costs.
