Who benefits from Personal Training?
Everyone can benefit from a personal training session, regardless of your current fitness level or age. A Personal Trainer is a coach, role model, educator, and cheerleader who will customize a workout program to meet your needs. Some people meet once to get a baseline for where they are and set goals then work on their own, others prefer to meet more often. The schedule is at your pace to meet your needs.
A trainer can help you set realistic goals for your health and fitness, guide you on how you can improve your current program, train you for a specific event or competition, and help first-timers learn the basics of exercise and work with you to make positive, lasting, lifestyle changes. Have specific goals in mind? Here are some examples of how you can benefit:
Athletes: Soccer players who want to improve agility and aerobic capacity; football players who want to increase leg strength and speed; basketball players who want to increase vertical jump and stamina, etc.
Weight loss: Many people want to lose weight for health reasons, to feel better and have more energy, to trim down and tone for beach season, or simply to fit into a smaller size. Developing a plan of action with a trainer is a great way to start.
New to exercise: There are a host of challenges you might face if you have never exercised regularly before. Working with a trainer cuts down the confusion and nervousness you might feel as you are just starting out. Meet with a trainer to find out how the machines work, proper techniques and form for different exercises, proper weights and number of repetitions to begin with, develop a safe and effective fitness program, and much more.
Experienced exercisers: Have you been working out for a long time? Are you bored with your current routine? Trying to improve but hit a plateau? Meet with a trainer to overhaul your program and implement new strategies and techniques that you might not know about or haven’t thought of to blast through.
Disease prevention: The combination of exercise and healthy living habits plays a major role in improving health and preventing disease. Proper exercise can help prevent obesity; control high blood pressure; improve the function of the heart, lungs, and blood vessels; and prevent the onset of type II diabetes. Work with a trainer to develop a plan to improve your health and live a happier life.
What happens first?
The trainer will give you an initial fitness evaluation, which is a series of tests – including aerobic fitness, flexibility, muscle strength, and endurance – to determine how fit you are. The trainer should ask you about any health conditions you might have, any medications you are on, and your current exercise experience.
What next?
After determining your baseline, the trainer will work with you to customize your exercise plan. There is no “one size fits all” approach. You will have a plan tailored to meet your needs. Ideally, this is accomplished over a series of visits. You will get one-on-one attention to get the most out of your workout without getting injured and build the confidence you need to continue working on your own. Additional appointment can be scheduled as you need them, if you wish.
